Eddie Vedder, Hammersmith Apollo. Tuesday 31st July 2012.

I was lucky enough to go and see Pearl Jam frontman, Eddie Vedder’s solo show at the Hammersmith Apollo last Tuesday. (I actually went on the Monday thinking my tickets were for that night, but that’s another story!)

It was an amazing gig, during which he played a compilation of solo material, Pearl Jam songs and a handful of covers. He was also joined at different points during the evening by Glen Hansard (The Frames), Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Endz) and Roger Daltrey (The Who).

Yayoi Kusama exhibition @ Tate Modern.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on February 11, 2012 by gotnoyeezyinserato

Great exhibition at the Tate Modern by the Japanese Artist Yayoi Kusama, an 82 year old lady who has spent the last forty years of her life as a voluntary resident in a psychiatric hospital! The highlight for me is definitely the Infinity Mirror Room – Filled With The Brilliance Of Life, which is where the above photos were taken.

Although photography is forbidden in the the exhibition, I managed to take the above photos on the sly. There’s a few pictures of some of the other displays on The Guardian website below.

It runs until 5th June and I definitely recommend you get down there and check it out.

12 for 2012.

Following on from last years, 11 for 2011 – http://xtianmusic.wordpress.com/2011/01/03/happy-new-year-11-for-11/, here’s a few of the Artists & Tracks which I’m tipping for success this year. I’ve not including people who I’ve already posted about at length, like Skrillex and those that EVERYONE has posted about like Emeli Sande, Lana Del Rey etc. SO, IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER….

1 – AZARI & III – RECKLESS (WITH YOUR LOVE) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VZ1sN9233Q&feature=related

Have to admit, the first few times I heard this, I wasn’t a fan of the vocal. However although it’s grown on me, I just think it would be amazing as an instrumental. They’re a four piece from Toronto and the single version has been remixed by Paul Epworth, it’s released next month.

Already the winner of the 2012 NME Cool List – which doesn’t really hold any weight with me considering there’s probably more people work on the mag, than buy it nowadays! It will be interesting to see what Miss Banks serves up next after the Amazing “212” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Jv9fNPjgk (which sampled “Lazy Jay – Float My Boat”) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfrVEt4EvFU) and the decent “Liquorice” http://soundcloud.com/azealia-banks/liquorice (which sampled “Lone – Pineapple Crush”) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3HPKH3w9so)

Just booked tickets to see her at Heaven in London in Feb, and although I’m not the biggest fan of the band, I’m liking her contribution to the new Scissor Sisters single “Shady Love” (under the pseudonym Krystal Pepsy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0T5-PDeJ7c&feature=youtu.be

3 – CHIDDY BANG – RAY CHARLES. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atEx6ZOX51s

From the forthcoming album ‘Breakfast’. Although they released another couple of singles and a mini album, they never really followed up the success of the MGMT sampling ‘Opposite Of Adults” from 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McRgkE_vgjU

I first heard this live at an EMI showcase at Abbey Road and thought the chorus was “RAJAR”, which considering the room was full of radio people, I presumed was a smart move!

4 – DJ FRESH FEATURING RITA ORA – HOT RIGHT NOW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7OPZOBJZyI

Finally a follow up to ‘Louder” which sold over half a million copies and was one of the Top 25 best selling singles of last year. It features vocals by Rita Ora, who’s signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label.

5 – ESTELLE – THANK YOU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r40wCY8IIFQ

Admit I’m not Estelle’s biggest fan, but the first time I heard this I thought it was amazing. Imagine if Portishead replaced Beth Gibbons with either Mary J or Sade…… I think it would sound something like this. If you listen carefully you can hear co-writer Akon in the background, although thankfully he resists adding his usual “Konvict” branding at the beginning!

6 – GOYTE featuring KIMBRA – SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY

Seeing as it’s had over 39 million hits on youtube, I can’t exactly claim to be up front on this! However, I’ve only just heard it and although it’s been a big hit in Australia, it’s not out in the UK ’til next Month. Very Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates-esque!

Taken from the Korn album “The Path Of Totality” which is a collaboration with the likes of Skrillex, Feed Me, Kill The Noise & Noisia. This like previous single “Get Up”  http://xtianmusic.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/korn-vs-skrillex-get-up/ is a hook up with Skrillex http://xtianmusic.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/skrillex-koko-weds-161111/

Marger ft Josh Osho – This Year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp1VKG5t1Tk

This is the first track I’ve heard by Marger, but I’m more looking forward to hearing more of Josh Osho’s solo stuff. Was a big fan of his debut single “Redemption Days” http://xtianmusic.wordpress.com/2011/06/07/josh-osho-featuring-ghostface-killah-redemption-days/

New single – Get Out My Head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AqbLGHqsTg

Signed to Chase & Status’ MTA records, who had great success last year with the Nero album, this is the follow up to the Ms. Dynamite collab “What You Talking About” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3piv9EFZU8

10 – RUDE KID – GET BUSY. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPGPI3A3rNg

Sampling “Big Bass vs Michelle Narine – What You Do” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTxeR-9UuAg from 2007, which in turn had sampled the original “Playing With Knives by Bizarre Inc” from 1997. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQuHvJh_LeA

Coming out on the recently relauched Relentless Records in March.

I remember a version many many moons ago, which I believe was recorded by Blue Pearl as their single “Can You Feel The Passion”, but they couldn’t get clearance for the Bizarre Inc sample. This bootleg isn’t a million miles away from how it sounded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWw3zeBdNVw

11 – YASMIN FEATURING SHY FX & MS. DYNAMITE – LIGHT UP THE WORLD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USzW_yf9HNY

Had the original version of this track (minus Ms. Dynamite) since Carnival time last year and played it constantly for a couple of months! It’s finally coming out in the last week of January, but 5 months later it still sounds fresh.

12 – WILEY – BOOM BLAST. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGxBOqUTFIQ

From the new album “Evolve Or Be Extinct”, Wiley’s third album in the past 10 months! There’s some real gems on the album including a skit about customs, in which the policeman sounds like Brian Harvey from East 17!

BEST OF 2011.

JAY-Z & KANYE WEST – N***AS IN PARIS – WATCH THE THRONE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXMJ-V6MCzw

Definitely one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums of 2011. During the recent live dates that they performed in the states, they performed this song up to SEVEN times in a row some nights! http://timeoutchicago.com/music-nightlife/music/15041285/watch-the-throne-kanye-west-and-jay-z-at-united-center-live-review-ph

WORST OF 2012??

Hate to end this post on a negative, but in contrast to the above Artists & Songs, although we’re only a week into the new year, I’m pretty sure this will be one of the worst singles released this year when we look back in December! Truly awful! If you thought Head Shoulders Knees & Toes was bad…..

K.I.G. FAMILY FEATURING KELLY PEPPER – DREAMS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDxVUtbd1Qc

AN (edited) HISTORY OF (my) STUSSY Tees collection!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on September 10, 2011 by gotnoyeezyinserato

A few years ago I started dropping old clothes at Oxfam rather than just throwing them out. Those of you who know me will know that this means that the Oxfam in Dalston at times looked like a second hand Stussy chapter!

I still loved these Tees, but they’d become faded or mis-shaped after more than regular wear, so I decided to keep a record by photographing them before putting them in the black bin bag and dropping them off at the shop, a short walk down Kingsland High Street.

And so now I present a collage of a few of them. If I’d done this when I first started rocking Stussy and included hoodies, sweats, shirts & shorts etc, there’d be a fair few more albums than this, but here’s a most recent compilation! So far…..

Happy New Year – 11 for 11.

I’ve made a new years resolution to blog more in 2011. So….. here’s my first of the year – 11 big songs for 2011.

Produced by Stargate, whose most recent productions include Katy Perry’s Firework & What’s my name by Rihanna ft Drake.
Produced by (UK producer) Alex Da Kid (the man behind B.o.B ft Hayley Williams – Airplanes, Eminem ft Rihanna – Love the way you lie, Diddy ft Skylar grey – Coming home etc)
Taken from the forthcoming and much anticipated final Dr. Dre album DETOX.
Not actually the next single, but the Avril Lavigne (I’m With You) sampling Cheers is def one of my faves from the LOUD album.
4 – CHASE & STATUS featuring LIAM BAILEY – BLIND FAITH. r/d 24th Jan.
Both an amazing song and video, this is taken from the forthcoming second C&S album and features singer songwriter Liam Bailey who’s lazily been dubbed the male Amy Winehouse (purely cos he’s signed to her label!)
Here’s the mini film version….
but if you just wanna hear the edit of the tune, here’s a rip from Zane’s show…..
5 – YASMIN – ON MY OWN. r/d 30th Jan.
After appearing on the Devlin single Runaway, this is Yasmin’s first solo single.
The B52’s sampling Everybody is gonna be the follow up to the massive Like A G6. Although he’s been blown out of the water by Bruno Mars as the crooner for hire, I hope they release the single featuring Ryan Tedder of One Republic next.
Rocketeer featuring Ryan Tedder – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcmKbTR–iA
7 – FENECH SOLER – DEMONS. r/d 7th feb.
Lead singer Ben Duffy was the featured vocalist on the Groove Armada single Paper Romance, which was one of few highlights from the last Groove Armada album, Black Light.
8 – JODIE CONNOR – NOW OR NEVER. r/d 10th Jan.
Wiley never made it to the video shoot, but this is the first solo single from Manchester lass Jodie Connor. They’d previously worked together on the Roll Deep single, Good Times. She also provided vocals on Tinchy’s In My System.
9 – NERO – ME + YOU. r/d 2nd Jan
London duo Dan Stephens & Joe Ray, signed to the Chase & Status owned label MTA Records.
10 – KANYE WEST featuring Rihanna, Alicia Keys, John Legend, The Dream, Fergie (BEP’s), Kid Cudi, La Roux’s Elly Jackson, Sir Elton John and loads more – ALL OF THE LIGHTS. r/d 21st Feb.
Taken from one of the best albums of the last decade nevermind last year, this is to be the next single from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Some great live performances (I saw her at both Hoxton Bar & Kitchen & XOYO in 2 weeks) along with debut single Do It Like a Dude and has already won her the BRIT AWARDS Critics Choice award for 2011, but her next single is produced by Dr. Luke and features B.o.B. Here’s a live version from Later with Jools Holland.
